Are you passionate about conservation and have strong skills in the lab? Are you looking to join a dynamic team on a brand new project?

Many species of rhinoceros are critically endangered (only two females are remaining of the Northern White Rhino), therefore the development of fertility preservation techniques for rhinos is critical. This is the exciting new project launched by Dr Suzannah Williams in the Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health, building on expertise developed in the field of ovarian function using mouse and sheep models. Joining a highly motivated interdisciplinary team of scientists and clinical researchers, you will be responsible for the analysis of fixed ovarian rhino tissue as well as developing techniques to grow rhino eggs in vitro and in vivo with subsequent analysis of follicle function and egg quality. This will include contributing to protocol design and optimisation, generating and analysing data and presenting the results in the form of lectures at conferences and generating papers for publication in scientific journals. Field trips to collect additional material are anticipated.

You will hold a doctorate (or be near completion) in a biological subject with considerable experience in tissue culture techniques and/or mouse handling and surgery. Flexibility to learn new skills and develop novel approaches for analysis will be important in this role, as will strong self-motivation and organisational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure. You will have experience of contributing to publications or presentations and the ability to contribute to new ideas for research projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to concentrate on precise, focused tasks with close attention to detail will also be essential.

There are two positions available, both fixed-term appointments for 3 years. These are full-time roles, but applications for flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered in line with department needs. This may include part-time working.
