SRF Mentoring Scheme

Introduction to the scheme

Welcome to the SRF mentoring scheme! Having a good mentor (or mentors) can be a great asset during your career. Every mentor-mentee relationship is different, but broadly mentors can:

  • Provide a second opinion or different point of view
  • Offer advice (e.g., personal advice, advice on career development opportunities, advice on a particular skill/technique that they are familiar with)
  • Help you to network (e.g., highlighting relevant conferences, or directly introducing you to people they know)
  • Provide a knowledgeable space to discuss your academic journey, outside of your group/institution
  • Share in your highs and lows

All SRF members can access this scheme (for free!), including senior members, although we recognise that mentoring is especially important for members that are at an early stage of their career.

Contacting senior academics or colleagues for mentorship can be scary. In the SRF mentoring scheme, we have taken the first step for you and collated a list of senior academics that are (very) happy to mentor SRF members. You can find this list below, with details of the specialities of each mentor and their email address. If you are interested in being mentored by any of these academics, please email them directly with the subject line ‘SRF Mentoring Scheme’. N.B. This scheme is not aimed at supporting grant applications and paper submissions, please do not contact mentors for these reasons.

We are always looking for new mentors. If you would like to be a mentor, sign up below:
