Early Career Rep nominations and increase in ECR voice for 2022!
The SRF values the views and opinions of its Early Career members who make up approximately half of the SRF members. Traditionally there have been two Early Career Representatives (ECRs) sitting on the SRF Council. To better reflect numbers of SRF Early Career members, Council has decided to increase the number of ECRs to four comprising two postgrad/PhD students and two EC post-doctoral researchers. These roles are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable insight into the workings of the Society and to ensure full representation of the Early career SRF members in SRF decision making. All vacancies will be for a period of two years with two new opportunities available each year.
Council is therefore delighted to announce two opportunities from January 2022: one as a PhD ECR and one as a post-doctoral PCR.
We are seeking an SRF post-doctoral Early Career Member to take over from Aleona Swegen (Woman’s and Reproduction Health, Nuffield Department, Oxford) who will be finishing her term in January 2022.
The term for the new Postdoc Rep will run from Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 (the first year you will be working alongside Dr Federica Lopes (University of Edinburgh) who took on the role in January 2021.
PhD ECR – new for 2022
We are seeking an SRF PhD ECR and the term for this new post will be from Jan 2022 – Jan 2024.
Please note that two further opportunities will become available in 2023 when Dr Federica Lopes completes her term. This will ensure that 4 ECRs will be in place from 2023 onwards.
As a Postgrad/PhD or Postdoc Early Career Rep, you will attend Council meetings where you will represent the views and concerns of Early Career members, including undergraduates, PhD students and postdoctoral scientists. During the two-year term, you will have the opportunity to sit on one or possibly two SRF Committees and to contribute to discussions and decision-making processes as necessary. Early Career Reps also take a leading role in managing social media sites and are responsible for organising the SRF Early Career Researcher Symposium at the annual Fertility meeting (liaising with the SRF Programme Committee Chair) as well as any other EC events at Fertility and through the year as agreed.
Please note that ECRs are still able benefit from SRF grants, bursaries, and awards.
Attendance at meetings
Early career reps are expected to attend Council Meetings. The foreseeable meetings are due to be held:
2022: Spring (usually May) and Autumn (usually November)
2023: January (to coincide with Fertility 2023)
You will be reimbursed for travel costs incurred in attending these meetings.
Council meetings are held at a hotel in an accessible UK location (currently Manchester Airport) or virtually and take a Thu/Fri format. Committee meetings are held on Thursday afternoon, followed by a working dinner (the meeting is on location) the Council Meeting is held on Friday from 09.00 – 16.00. Food and overnight accommodation will be provided as necessary and travel (economy) expenses reimbursed.
